
Centre for Community Development(CCD) is a civil society organization working since 1991-92 in the Gajapati District for the socio-economic development of tribals and other marginalized sections of the community. The organization mainly focuses on natural resource management, sustainable livelihood promotion, reproductive child health Women Empowerment, Community Based Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities, and good governance. Mr. A. Jagannadha Raju, the Secretary of the Society has 44 years of concerted experience including 28 years at CCD in the field of social development sector working with the tribals, Dalits, and vulnerable sections of the community. Presently, the organization is working in 508 compact tribal and non-tribal villages of 129 Gram panchayats of Gumma, Kasinagar, Gosani (Paralakhemundi), Nuagada, Rayagada, R.Udayagiri and Mohona Blocks of Gajapati District covering total households 17250 and population 69121 including 3015 Persons with Disabilities.
Governance in CCD
Centre for Community Development follows a decentralized decision-making process with an efficient and intellectual Governing Board. At the organization level, the Core committee is the apex level decision-making body consisting of secretary CCD, project coordinators, accountant, document associate, and other senior staff. The committee meets every fortnight to review the progress of different projects and takes all the decisions regarding the organizational affair and its outreach programs. Apart from this CCD is guided by effective policies that are also being reviewed periodically as needed.

Gender equity
Centre for Community Development implements a gender equity policy, that emphasizes the gender equity aspects of the community as well as at the organizational level. The gender focal group has been appointed to look after the issues relating to the women staff. CCD is committed to providing a workplace that is free from sexual harassment. Sexual harassment in the workplace is against the law and will not be tolerated. When the Department determines that an allegation of sexual harassment is credible, it will take prompt and appropriate corrective action.
Experience of CCD
Natural Resource Management
Since inception, Centre for Community Development is working in the field of Natural Resource Management, organizing awareness campaigns, capacity building training programs and educating the community & local farmers on the protection of natural resources, plantation, effective utilization of non-timber forest produces, collective marketing, sustainable agriculture for livelihood promotion, soil & water conservation measures, community nurseries, watershed, water & sanitation, etc.
Education
Simultaneously, Centre for Community Development is also one of the implementing agencies of Accelerated Female Literacy Program (AFLP) under the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India, implementing the program in 38 Gram Panchayat of Gumma, Kasinagar and Paralakhemundi(Gosani) blocks in 2003. This program was motivated to educate 19000 neo literates (the clientele women between the age group of 15 - 35 years), in the above-mentioned blocks During the year 2005 06, CCD was running 33 bridge schools in Partada Gram Panchayat of Kasinagar Block and Tarangada Gram Panchayat of Gumma Block enrolling 673 dropouts and non-schooling children, supported by CEF/Action Aid.
Apart from this, CCD has also enrolled its status quo as a member of the District level education committee of SSA (Sarva Siksha Abhijaan), Gajapati. The organization works towards prioritizing the community-based rehabilitation of Disabled children promoting inclusive education for children with disabilities.
Reproductive Child Health and Malaria prevention
Health is one of the important areas of Centre for Community Development and since its inception, CCD has worked in close collaboration with the H&FW Department, ICDS, and network agencies to facilitate effective health services in isolated areas away from network towns. CCD worked towards the improvement of the community on different components of RCH & safe motherhood, mobilization of health support services in partnership with CARE and UNICEF, and actively involved in Malaria prevention and control in 300 villages with the support of Tata Education Trust (SDTT), Mumbai.
Women Empowerment
Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities
One of the focus areas of CCD is a community-based rehabilitation and mainstreaming persons with disabilities. CCD is organizing the PWDs through the promotion of SHGs of PWDs and providing capacity building training generating employment and self-employment opportunities. Till now CCD has promoted 215 SHGs of PWDs in the Gajapati District, to mainstream the education of children with disabilities especially visually impaired. CCD has started Braille education and emphasizing to reduce the dropout and non-schooling of the children promoting Inclusive Education and encouraged an ABLED body DPO SMART with 1936 PWDs.
Vocational Skill development
To enhance the target communities' sustainable livelihood through skill development the Centre for Community Development has emphasized the promotion of skill development. CCD has provided skill development training programs on mobile repairs, bike repairs, vehicle driving, computer software hardware training programs, sewing, Phynoil cleaning agents, Incense sticks (agarbati) making, sustainable leaf plate assembly, broomstick making, and jute bag production.
