Centre for Community Development(CCD) is a civil society organisation working since 1991-92 in Gajapati District for the socio-economic development of tribals and other marginalized sections of the community focusing on natural resource management, sustainable livelihood promotion, reproductive child health Women Empowerment, Community Based Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities and good governance. Mr. A. Jagannadha Raju, the Secretary of the Society is having 44 years of concerted experience including 28 years in CCD in the field of social development sector working with the tribals, dalits and vulnerable sections of the community. Presently, the organization is working in 372 compact tribal and non-tribal villages of 52 gram panchayats of Gumma, Kasinagar, Gosani (Paralakhemundi) Nuagada, Rayagada, R.Udayagiri and Mohona Blocks of Gajapati District.

CCD aspires for an alternative self reliant just society where people and children can grow with self dignity, free from exploitation, oppression and gender bias and harmony with nature and self governance.

Governance in CCD
There is a decentralization decision-making process in CCD with efficient Governing Board. At the organization level Core committee is the apex level decision-making body. It is consisting of secretary CCD, all the project coordinators, accountant, document associate and other senior staffs. The committee meets every fortnight to review the progress of different projects. It takes all the decision regarding the organizational affair. Apart from this CCD is guided by effective policies which are also being reviewed periodically

Gender equity
CCD has a gender policy, which is taking about the gender equity aspect at the community as well as at the organization level. Gender focal group has been promoted to look after the issues relating to the women staff. CCD has Sexual Harassment policy. A gender fund has been promoted at the organization level to provide support to the women in distressed condition.
Experience of CCD
Natural Resource Management
Since inception, CCD is working in the field of NRM organizing awareness campaigns, capacity building trainings and exposures to the community / farmers to get the knowledge on protection of natural resources, plantation, effective utilization of non-timber forest produces, collective marketing, sustainable agriculture for livelihood promotion, soil & water conservation measures, community nursery, watershed, water & sanitation etc.
Education
CCD is having the concerted experience mainly in the field of education promotion maintaining effective linkages with line departments adopting the social mobilization techniques and measures for the enrolment of the tribal children with a special need to develop the retention rate of girl child in the schools, merging them in the main stream. , taking education as a entry point of intervention, imparting the noble values and the minimum basic tenets to the sponsor children creating the receptacle base for the socio-economic development of the parents.
26 Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) centres were taken up in interior and inaccessible tribal pockets of Rayagada and Nuagada Blocks, in 2003 to access the minimum basic needs of education to 656 dropout and non-schooling tribal children.
Simultaneously, CCD is also one of the implementing agencies of Accelerated Female Literacy Program (AFLP), Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India, implementing the program in 38 Gram Panchayat of Gumma, Kasinagar and Paralakhemundi(Gosani) blocks in 2003, to literate 19000 neo-literates (the clientele women between the age group of 15- 35 years), in the said blocks, During the year 2005-06, CCD was running 33 bridge schools in Partada Gram Panchayat of Kasinagar Block and Tarangada Gram Panchayat of Gumma Block enrolling 673 dropout and non-schooling children, supported by CEF/Action Aid.
Apart from this, CCD is also enrolled its status quo as a members in the District level education committee of SSA (Sarva Siksha Abhijaan), Gajapati, CCD also prioritizing for the community based rehabilitation of the Disabled children ,promoting Inclusive Education for the children with disability.
Reproductive Child Health and Malaria prevention
Health is one of the priority areas of CCD and since inception, CCD is working in close collaboration with H&FW deptt, ICDS and network agencies to reach effective health services in unreached areas, sensitization of the community on different components of RCH & safe motherhood, mobilization of health support services in partnership with CARE and UNICEF, and actively involved in Malaria prevention and control.in 300 villages with the support of Tata Education Trust.(SDTT, Mumbai).
Women Empowerment
CCD is always focusing on socio-economic development of women community with gender equality approaches. CCD has promoted 921 women self help groups and two district level women Cooperatives i. e Gajapati Women Cooperative Society Ltd, Paralakhemundi and Mahendragiri Women Cooperative Society, Rayagada Block with 10000 women to access the micro credit support for income generation activities etc.
Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities
One of the focus areas of CCD is community based rehabilitation and mainstreaming the persons with disabilities. CCD is organizing the PWDs through promotion of SHGs of PWDs and providing capacity building trainings and creating employment and self employment opportunities. Till now CCD has promoted 215 SHGs of PWDs in Gajapati District. To mainstream the education of children with disabilities especially visually impaired, CCD has started Braille education and emphasizing to reduce the dropout and non-schooling of the children Promoting Inclusive Education and Promoted an ABLED body DPO SMARTH with 1936 PWDs.
Vocational Skill development
To enhance the target communities sustainable livelihood through skill development CCD has continuing its focus on skill development. Still now CCD has provided skill development trainings on mobile repairing, Bike repairing, driving, computer softer and hardware, tailoring, Phynoil , Agarbati making, Leafplate making, broom making and Jute bag making.
Value addition of NTFP products
CCD has also taken up the sustainable livelihood on Pineapple processing, cashew processing, Tamarind processing and millets processing.
