CCD is focusing on sustainable livelihood promotion of tribal communities through agriculture, horticulture, Pisciculture, NTFP produces as well as creating the avenues for value addition, marketing linkages, supply and value chain management by taking the support of external consultants with a view to enhance the quality of livelihood and sustainable income generation opportunities. The tribal farmers have cultivated Sunflower, Ragi, Ginger, Onion, and Cauliflower. Tamarind production is also a major income source for farmers. Ragi, Jana, Suan, Kangu, Ganga which was the staple food of the tribals in earlier years. But their practices have been changed and now they have adopted best practices in Paddy, Ragi & Vegetable Cultivation.
Special Programme for Promotion of Millets in Tribal Areas supported by Govt. of Odisha through Millet Mission.
During the year 2017-18, the tribal farmers were motivated for traditional millet cultivation practices and also sensitized its nutritional values. The program was started in Gumma Block to cultivate 800 acres under Odisha Millet Mission supported by the Agriculture department—ATMA, Gajapati, and technical support by WASSEN. Since last Five years CCD has been successfully implemented the Odisha Millets Mission project to strengthen and orient the tribal families to adopt the sustainable practices with the new technology of SMI & CTI and organic inputs of Jevamutra, Handikhata to enhance the quality and quantity of different varieties of Millets. This project gave rebirth of Millet cultivation, family consumption and secured livelihood / income sources to the tribal farmers.

Odisha Millets Mission gives hope in reducing drudgery of women in post-harvesting.
Traditional post –harvesting operations of millets women were facing difficulties due to small grain in size and threshing on the ground. In this traditional process of harvesting there is possibility of sand and pebbles getting mixed with the grains. After harvesting women have to dry it under sun rays and start threshing with the help of sticks to separate grains from the straw. Again they use “KUTUNI’’to de husk the millets. to reduce the women drudgery Odisha Millets Mission has supplied four nos of thresher cum parler to Ujayalla Farmers Producer Company ltd. and they have demonstrated at village S.Kolakote, B.Kolakote & S.Kulunda under B.Kolakote & Tarangada GP on experiment basis. Women farmers are happy after using the thresher and “express their views that this has reduced the drudgery and saves productive time”.
Block-level campaigns on best practices & family consumption of millet to enhance the nutrition food intake, especially among women, children, and persons with disabilities.
Capacity Building training at Village and Block level for development of product based business development plan.
Routine training to Ujayalla Producer’s Company members on market access and agro-horticulture enterprises fair trade.
Disrtrict level Workshop in collaboration with district administration to introduce millet items in ITDA hostels and State Nutrition Program i,e,. in MDM, Anganawadi etc.
Intra State exposure visits have been organized for progressive farmers to obtain knowledge on the value addition of Millets, Processing, seed production, marketing and safe storage.
Field Days on crop cutting programs have organized with the presence of Agriculture officers and experts to share the benefits of improved agronomic practices as well as aware the fermers on the difference in yield through SMI and Traditional practices..
Residential trainings for CRP and progressive farmers in SMI and organic cultivation.
Food festival programs - Pallishree Mela was organized by the District Administration and CCD has participated installing one stall and exhibited different value added items prepared from Ragi & other Minor Millets.
One farmers producers company has been promoted in the name of Ujjyala Farmers Producers Company ltd registered under the Companies Act, 2013, Dtd. 27-05-2019.
